Opting in to Text Messaging
As of November 1st, 2021, we made some updates to how text messaging works through GroupVitals!
In order to comply with new spam laws in the United States that concern text messages sent from organizations, we now require that everyone opt-in (i.e. give permission) first so that they can begin and/or continue receive texts sent using GroupVitals.
This applies to all new and existing admins, leaders, members, etc. in GroupVitals. All people will have to opt-in again so that GroupVitals has an official record of requesting and receiving someones permission to receive a text from the GroupVitals platform. The next time someone is supposed to receive a text message, it will first ask them to reply with YES to receive that kind of text message. Only when they reply with YES that one time will they receive that text and any future texts.
Here's some more practical information on how this will work for you, your group leaders, and members:
For Group Leaders (and Hosts/Admins)
Everyone Has to Opt-in Again - For group leaders who take attendance via text, the next time they receive a text to take attendance it will ask them to opt-in to continue receiving attendance texts. They simply need to reply with YES and then they will immediately receive their scheduled attendance reminder.
Simpler Attendance Text Opt-in - They can text the word ATTENDANCE to 1-629-235-5876. If they send this text and they have a phone number on file, they will receive a follow-up message asking them to text YES to opt-in to receiving attendance text alerts every time their group meets (this text will also contain a link to take attendance for their group). If they reply NO or do not respond to the text, they will not be opted in.
My Notifications Settings - The on/off toggles remain the same to receive the attendance or GroupFinder sign up text. If someone toggles this on, it will immediately send them the opt-in text for them to reply YES first. If they toggle it off, then they will
For Group Members:
Before a group member can receive a message sent from their group leader, they too will need to opt-in to receiving text messages. Even if they have already been receiving texts, they will need to opt-in. The next time a leader sends a text, each member will first be sent a text message that says "You have a message from (group leader's name + name a group). Reply YES to opt in to receive group texts." Once they reply YES, they will receive the leader's text and all future text messages sent from the group leader.
If a person no longer wishes to receive text messages through GroupVitals, they can opt-out at anytime by texting STOP. Leaders can also opt-out by toggling off text messages in the notifications section of their profile.
There's no need to re-send an opt-in text for group messages.
At any time someone can reply YES to the original opt-in text they received from GroupVitals.
If they deleted the original opt-in text, then at anytime they can opt-in by texting the word YES to "629-206-6309"
